Dear Illustrious Brother;

On behalf of the Officers and Members of the Morning Star Consistory, I extend a warm invitation to you to attend our biannual Reunion in Kelowna, British Columbia. This year our reunion is being held in memory of Ill. Bro. James Russell Allanach 32° who was tragically murdered on July 16, 2006. Ill. Bro. Allanach 32° was a courtesy candidate at the first Reunion of Morning Star Consistory on May 27, 2006 and was a member of Vancouver Island Consistory.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

John Shandalla Commander-in-Chief
Morning Star Consistory

Ill. Bro. James R Allanach 32°

You are hereby notified that the biannual reunion of Morning Star Consistory will be held in the city of Kelowna, British Columbia, commencing Saturday the 30th of May, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. All sessions will be held in the Oak Ball Room Ramada Hotel Kelowna B.C.

James Allanach was a young man who “Came Alive” with Freemasonry. Initially he joined because his Grandfather who he loved and respected deeply was a Mason, indeed he wore his Grandfather’s ring until the end, but he found far more in the Craft than just a family legacy. James took the instructions in our Rituals to heart, studying the 7 liberal arts and sciences, even hiring a music teacher to understand a realm that previously he had no knowledge of. He also discovered a deep awe and understanding of the natural world, finding the fingerprints of the G.A. in everything from the smallest flower to the structure and order of the universe itself.

Masonry changed James at every level, and without doubt he became the person he was meant to be with the Craft’s aid. The love of learning and philosophy that the Craft inculcated in James was infectious, we all felt his presence when sitting in Lodge. Many Brothers in Victoria will long remember his presentation on Raphael’s “School of Athens”, many eyes were opened to the parallels between our Craft today and the ancient Greeks.

Above all it was James ability to speak in a way that you couldn’t help be captivated by that impacted us all. He somehow had the ability to describe and share everything he learned that held all of our attentions. Little details and obscure references in our rituals made such sense when he talked, a conversation with him was like having your eyes opened.

That he was taken from us all too soon cannot be denied, but given how he embraced Freemasonry and made it a part of himself, those who knew him have no doubt that when his time came he walked boldly and without fear along the path to the G.L.A. The work he did memorizing parts of the third degree was not just a case of learning the words, he embraced and understood them, peeling back the veil of allegory to reveal the ancient truths within.

He is still missed, as a friend, a brother and a visionary, but also as the Grand Master we will not now have…..

Did You Know...

It is the practice in most Valleys to hold a Reunion of the members once or twice a year, when all the degrees of the Lodge, Chapter or Consistory are conferred or communicated on a class of candidates over a period of a few days.

This gives an opportunity for some social fellowship and it is also more convenient for the members living some distance from the meeting place.
